Having graduated in psychology from the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR – Brazil) in 2005, I’ve always been driven by the drama of human relationships. Whether it was through my first professional steps working with children in schools or through individual consultations in private practice, the impact of the romantic relationship remained at the heart of my attention, despite the differences inherent in these two environments. On the one hand, because of its central role in the adjustment of parents’ relationship, which modulates their parenting practices, and on the other, because of its ubiquity in the speech of my adult clients, whether concerned by the presence or absence of romantic relationships in their lives. Without realizing it, I had fallen in love with attachment theory, and my interest in couples’ therapy was only growing!
After immigrating to Canada in 2007, I seized the unique opportunity presented to me, which was in line with my path up to that point: coloring my doctoral studies at the Université de Sherbrooke with my interest in couples and romantic relationships. My internships and thesis merged around the same theme: attachment, commitment and relationships. Exposed to Sue Johnson’s videos over the course of my doctoral studies, I had the chance to meet her at the Externship I completed with her in Ottawa in 2013. It was love at first sight for EFT! Since then, I’ve been immersed in it with my characteristic enthusiasm and commitment. A second “love at first sight” came a few years later when EFT, which until then had been applied to couples, extended its practice to individuals.
I feel privileged to practice in a model that allows me to connect with the other person, to be moved by their emotional experience and to use my empathy in the service of treatment.
Since 2010 in my work at the Clinique de Psychologie St-Lambert (and since 2016 as co-owner), I’ve had the opportunity to accompany and be touched by many couples and individual clients. As a supervisor and certified EFT therapist, I actively contribute to the growth of EFT in Quebec, both as a co-founder of the EFT Quebec community–which organizes bilingual training events in the approach–and as a supervisor of EFT therapists and grad students in the province. These roles allow me to draw on my enthusiasm for the approach to nurture relationships and create a space for exchange, sharing and collaboration between therapists and communities. It is my deep desire that, in a not-too-distant future, every client who so desires can have access to quality EFT therapy.
